Summary of VEGF in glioblastoma

Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive brain tumor associated with a median survival of less than 12 months. VEGF is an important mediator of angiogenesis, which has been identified as a key characteristic of glioblastoma development. Numerous studies have demonstrated the prevalence of VEGF expression and its isoforms in glioblastoma, as well as its associated outcomes, including increased vascularization, increased vessel density, worse tumor grade, and poor survival rate.1,6,10,11,12

Further research is necessary to better define the relationship between VEGF and angiogenesis in glioblastoma to ultimately improve prognosis.
