VEGF correlates with increased risk of relapse in colorectal cancer

Relapse-free survival risk ratio for VEGF overexpression4

Relapse-free survival risk ratio for VEGF overexpression
In a large 2006 meta-analysis of 27 studies specifically investigating VEGF in colorectal cancer, Des Guetz et al showed that VEGF overexpression was significantly correlated with an increased risk of relapse (risk ratio 2.84; 95% CI=1.95–4.16; P<0.001). Note that a risk ratio greater than 1 indicates poorer prognosis.4

Des Guetz and colleagues performed a meta-analysis of numerous studies of angiogenesis in colorectal cancer, including 27 studies that specifically examined the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This meta-analysis found that VEGF expression was strongly predictive for poor relapse-free survival, with a risk ratio of 2.84 (P<0.001).4
